Father-Son memories

I really enjoyed this story about a father, his son and the Space Shuttles. It makes me want to be intentional about creating and recording memories together that we can revisit and share for as long as we share life.

Make it a point to do big things. And take a camera!

  1. This reminds me of this summer at the beach with my family. My husband (also a 'geek', but that's a good thing, though he is certainly not one to pick up camera) was dying to get a metal detector, so we bought one. Turns out, that's the trick to getting him to the beach, the hope of finding 'priceless treasures'. We had an absolutely wonderful day at the beach, playing with the kids in the surf (they are 3 & 5 years old), teaching my little guy to boogie board with me, building sand castles and just having one of the best days ever. On the way home, I took out my camera to see what kind of pictures we had and saw that the only pictures were the ones I'd taken of hubby roaming with his new toy. I had been having too much fun playing with the kids. Just then, he noted that he hadn't found any 'priceless treasures' and my response was that if he wanted 'priceless treasures' then his best bet was to pick up the camera while I was dancing in the surf with our amazing kids and take pictures of our sand castles and our boogie boarding lessons. Being the awesome dad and husband that he is, we now have literally hundreds of pictures from our summers' excursions. Our children will never be 3 and 5 again, next year they'll be 4 and 6. And we will take more pictures, but the ones we took this summer will be more priceless and more treasured than if he'd found that Spanish gold he was after. And it doesn't have to be big things. We all know it's the little things that matter most anyway, and the memories that Joshua will take away are the ones you had no idea you were creating at the time.
